The Sammie is a working dog medium sized with the males being approximately 20/22 inches at the shoulder and the females being approximately 18/20 inches at the shoulder they make a very distinguished picture with their sparkling thick standoff coat and strong body and the natural ready smile which greets everyone.

They have a delightful temperament and think that humans were put on this world as two legged fussing machines.

They are also very outgoing, mischievous, inquisitive, (another word for being nosey ) and very intelligent they just love people to bits, they believe that everyone wants to stroke and fuss them, they love company whether they are at home or out for a walk and once you have fussed/stroked one of them they will never forget you and never leave you alone they will take as much of your time as possible they are a true friend and companion always willing to please and never showing any aggression to anyone.

Speaking from my own experience with my grandchildren and other peoples children

They will allow babies to climb on them and if one should cry for any reason the girls will try and suckle the smaller children.

But be careful if they do become bored they can become very naughty and destructive

in the house and also outside, they usually start with digging a few little holes that progress’s to very large ones if not stopped, they will start barking and will not stop until you go and stop them, being a rather high pitched and piercing bark it will drive you and your neighbours mad. They really do demand a lot of attention and exercise at least twice a day.

Because they are a medium size they are an ideal dog for the home, however some like to stay outdoors in a secure kennel and garden mostly they prefer to stay with the family so they get to eat the leftovers from the meals.

Samoyeds coats are normally white, but you can get them with brown/tan patches on a white coat that are called biscuit, you can also get a cream coloured coat as well.

The coat is made up of a soft undercoat and a harsher topcoat which has silver tips to it that you can see in the sunlight and when it is first washed.

They do however lose these beautiful coats at least once a year, first to come out is the soft undercoat which no matter how careful you are gets everywhere upstairs downstairs in your food in your tea/coffee on your clothes that you have just bought today from the shops, they have no mercy on their so called HUMAN friends, then they lose the top coat this is the same but it gets threaded into clothes, carpets, furniture, you name it and it gets there, there is no place sacred from the Samoyed hairs

You will if you want a stress less life at this time groom the dog on a regular basis this is to stop the hair knotting and try and prevent some of the lose hair getting all over your home, and your Hoover constantly clogging up, and you must always before bathing the dog give it a grooming this is to stop the lose hair knotting together usually the soft undercoat with the top coat and to save you aching back teasing it out for hours on end.
